To «blue» or not to «blue», Australian Open 2013

So I know it’s finished, we know who won and at the same time I’m not a blogger of sports, not at all!
During my time at the Australian Open, something really intrigued me:
WHY ARE THE FIELDS BLUE?

Before we need an explanation, we need to understand:
Indeed, if you are like me, you may not understand the different types of fields, here is a small summary.
There are 3 types of surface (and obviously three colors of field):
> Green: tournament on grass that we shall find in Wimbledon
> Red: on a hard-packed surface approved by a large majority by… the French people
> Blue: on the hard, the Plexicushion, choice adopted by the Australians in 2008 (as a replacement of the green) because apparently this type of field is designed to absorb shocks, resists better the heat and allows a better visual broadcast (they think of all of these, Aussies!!!)

Thus here is for our culture … I shall now want to be interested in the symbolism of colors. We say that colors have an impact on our lives and symbolize thoughts, states and codes. And my research was rather interesting and demonstrated me the reflection of our cultural differences. Then you are thinking it’s only about the tennis court and that of techniques! You’re right… But my French mind, trying to analyze everything already set off.

Thus let us start again:
> Green: color of nature, toning, soothing. In Occident, we associate it with the chance and with the hope.
> Red: the most fascinating and ambiguous color. It’s the color of the paradoxes and the contradictions. Love / anger, sensuality / sexuality we also associate it with the blood, with the hell and with the lust. This color moves the passions (positive or negative)
> Blue: color of the sea and the sky that opens horizons, connected to the dream, to the wisdom and to the serenity. The blue is the echo of the life, the journey and the discoveries literally and represented (personal introspection). As the water that quenches, the blue has a small refreshing and pure side that allows finding certain quiet inside connected to the deep things. The blue is symbol of the truth, as clear as water.

I preferred to concentrate on both colors that interest me: the red for France and the blue for Australia. And I notice many similarities between the symbols and the culture of every country.

Indeed, in France, I can put forward as Frenchwoman when I write that sometimes we are in a paradox and in philosophic debates not to finish it any more. We are capable of loving and of hating very fast; we find moreover our Latin side taken by emotional contradictions. We can be very passionate in everything and we have a famous reputation worldwide concerning the sex (and yes, we need to accept it!!!).

In Australia, even if for the moment I know only Melbourne, further to my experience, unquestionably this country allows me to open my horizons, calms me and reassures me. Finding me in front of me even, without family or friends, having lost my social codes to find new ones, I am very grateful to make a personal introspection in this country where everything seems to flow, to slide with fluidity and simplicity of the daily life.

It is thus, with passion, I do my Australian Open, open me to the world that surrounds me. I played my GAME card of the travel here, I am there only for the first SET of my Australian adventure and I admit that this city MATCHes me marvelously.

But by the way I cannot finish this article without saying a big bravo to the French players, we were very good and bravo Djokovic.
